Chairman's Statement

Welcome to the website of Sara-Timur Sdn. Bhd.

It is my distinct privilege to have been invited to serve as the Chairman of the Sara-Timur Group of companies. As a long friend of the company and its senior members, I was well aware of the company's activities.

We have always taken pride in the quality of work that goes into building our communities and aim to collectively accomplish even greater things to meet the demands of a growing population. Sara-Timur has a wealth of construction industry experience and we will use this knowledge to provide input to the government on various issues, offering practical solutions to a variety of challenges facing the construction industry.

With many new and exciting challenges ahead in the areas of infrastructure, growth planning (land supply and use) and regulatory reform, the company has the opportunity to draw upon its resources and team of experts to offer innovative recommendations and solutions to these issues.

Sara-Timur is committed to constructing a brighter future for Malaysia, one that reflects our abilities as a sophisticated regional leader in the areas of new urban development, urban redevelopment, construction and design.

Effective government relations and lobbying is critical to ensuring that the construction industry's message is delivered in a way that will effect positive change. One of my major roles is to work with all levels of government to seek out solutions to a variety of challenges facing our urban centres and rural communities.

Everyone is aware of the value of urban redevelopment in Malaysia even though there might be some disagreement on the actual magnitude of the problem. Malaysia's challenge is to implement real solutions to address these urban development deficiencies, whether it is insufficient housing, commercial outlets or deteriorating inner cities. These and many other issues must be dealt with on an urgent basis.

Our industry has many regulatory hurdles too. Efforts to fast-track urban development projects must be sought. For instance, a streamlined environmental approvals process is a prerequisite to proceeding with necessary expansion.

I could go on about the range of issues that our industry must address, but let me simply conclude that the task will be more productive by speaking with a unified voice wherever possible. Please do not hesitate to send me your ideas. Our board of directors will discuss these ideas and communicate with various government sectors.

Your time and interest is greatly appreciated, I now invite you to browse our website and view our many completed projects, our latest initiatives and developments.

Sincerely,

Dato' Dr. Zawawi Ismail, Chairman
